Celebrate Dad in Lake Tahoe: Bikes, BBQ & Big Wins

Here’s to the dads who taught us how to ski powder, fix a flat, grill a steak—and reel in a trophy trout. Happy Father’s Day, legends.

Celebrate Dad in Lake Tahoe: Bikes, BBQ & Big Wins

Whether he’s a trail‑shredding legend, a meat-smoking hero, or just here for the back nine and a cold beer—Father’s Day in Lake Tahoe was made for the guys who raised us (or stood by us every time we took a leap—on snow, behind a wakeboard boat, or into something bigger than ourselves).

Here’s how to celebrate Dad this Sunday—whether he’s into downhill mountain biking, fly fishing, craft beer flights, or catching the U.S. Open Golf final round with a lakeside view.

For the Fly-Fishing Fans

Father’s Day mornings are made for misty rivers, barbless hooks, and chasing trout in the Sierra sun. If your dad’s the cast-and-retrieve type—or just wants to learn—book a guided adventure with Alpine Fly Fishing. Led by longtime Tahoe local Brendan Burnside, Alpine Fly Fishing specializes in private walk-and-wade trips across the Truckee River, Little Truckee, and surrounding alpine creeks.

It’s peak season for Mackinaw and rainbow trout, and with the right guide, even beginners stand a chance at landing a beauty before brunch. Morning session? You’ll still have time to catch the back nine of the U.S. Open Golf.

All-Terrain Dads, This One’s for You:

Northstar Bike Park – Grab lift tickets and go full send together. Bonus points for après beers at Truckee Brewing Company—just 10 minutes down the hill, with a garage-brew vibe, local taps, and room for bikes and dogs. Trail sweat welcome.

Flume Trail Ride (Incline Village) – Classic Tahoe views + a solid workout = dad win. Rent e-bikes if you’re still recovering from last night’s IPA tasting.

Edgewood Tahoe Golf – Legendary greens, lake views, and brunchy lunch options at Brooks’ Bar & Deck. One of the most scenic Lake Tahoe golf courses—and an ideal spot to catch part of the U.S. Open in between holes.

Kayak & Chill at Sand Harbor – Paddle out early, then post up on the beach with snacks and a cooler. Classic Father’s Day outdoor activity in Tahoe.

Fuel Him Up

Basecamp Beer Garden – Brats, brisket, and Tahoe craft brews under the pines. Dogs welcome, dad approved.

The Bridgetender – A riverside staple. Burgers + spicy Bloody Mary = best brunch in Tahoe for dads who skip the mimosa.

Truckee Ale Trail – Dad-powered version of the mimosa crawl. Start at Alibi Ale Works, cruise to Truckee Brewing, and land at Mellow Fellow. Bonus points if he wears his socks with sandals.

For the Sport-Loving Pops

U.S. Open Golf – Final Round – Full coverage Sunday 9 a.m.–7 p.m. ET (6 a.m.–4 p.m. PT) on USA, NBC, and Peacock. Perfect for streaming post-fishing or during a lakeside lunch.

F1 Canadian Grand Prix – Lights out at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT. Watch live on ESPN or F1TV—just enough time to squeeze in a bike lap or cold plunge first.

Mountain Biking World Cup – Downhill and XC race streams + replays on Red Bull TV. Pro-level stoke, perfect for background during beers or BBQ.

💙 A Note About My Dad, Sam

I lost my dad when I was 26, so Father’s Day always hits different. If you’re lucky enough to have your dad around—make the call, plan the day, take the photo. Life moves fast, and these moments matter more than we think.

And if this Sunday’s a little tough for you too—be gentle with yourself. Get outside. Cast a line. Ride something. Watch golf in his honor. Or raise a glass to the man who helped shape you.

Here’s to the dads who taught us how to ski powder, fix a flat, grill a steak—and reel in a trophy trout.
Happy Father’s Day, legends.
