An unusual, but highly inspiring event will blossom from the landscape of the Tahoe Meadows Interpretative Trail in Incline Village, Nevada. Over the weekend of September 10th and 11th, Trails & Vistas presents their Fall Art Hike. This year’s hike is featured as A Poetic Path Into the Landscape.
The hike provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy eight art and performance sites. These art installations are set along a gentle hiking trail, perfect for all ages and hiking abilities.

The Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Trail is a 1.3-mile loop along meadows and through forests. Located near Mount Rose Summit, it is 8 miles north of Incline Village and North Lake Tahoe. A complimentary shuttle will bring you to the trailhead from the Diamond Peak Ski Resort Lower Parking Lot.
A collaborative group of artists will come together, including basketmakers from the Washoe Tribe, musicians, and poets. Hikers will also enjoy an assortment of colorful and inspiring art installations along the 1.3-mile trail, and the hike will take about 2.5 hours to complete.
Trails & Vistas is a non-profit organization that facilitates art events in nature. They strive to create a more sustainable and healthy world, with a deep appreciation for both art and nature. Open to all ages, and offering field trips for children, they promote an appreciation of the performing and visual arts, along with environmental stewardship.
Details About The Hike
Audience members will be led by an experienced guide. Hiking in small groups, each hike will pause for art performances and installations. The hiking tour is designed to connect you to the wonders of nature through a poet’s words, songs, dance, and art installations. Talented artists and performers will present the expected and the unexpected, taking participants on a journey of wonder.
These art hikes are described as magical, diverse, and inspiring. They blend the art experiences with the beauty of being immersed in nature. Site-specific visual art installations will be featured by installation artist Nancy Tieken Lopez as well as local favorites Jennie Pitts Knipe, and Emily Tessmer.
The Poetic Path is a visual and sonic journey, featuring poems by Jean Fournier. Hikers will learn about the rich culture of the Washoe Tribe with master basketmaker Sue Coleman of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. Sue Coleman is a member of the Washoe nation, and her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmothers were all basketmakers.
The hike will also feature Americana music by Minser & Smith from Northern California. Misner & Smith’s music is a combination of soaring vocal harmonies, and story-filled, poetic songwriting. Each song is a story, a journey, a place, a time, or an experience.
From the Diamond Peak Ski Resort in Incline Village, a shuttle will drop your group off at the trailhead and return you after the hike. A Mindfulness Hike begins at 9 a.m., and the shuttle will run throughout each day. Hiking groups will depart every twenty minutes with a trail leader.

The organization’s mission is to create a community by celebrating the arts and nature.
